Jimmy Terranova
" You’ve gotta move to your left,

That’s my philosophy on life."

»»age: 19
»»gender: male
»»sexual orientation: heterosexual
»»position: Cook
»»race: Human
»»alliance: Pirate/Deity
»»powers: n/a
»»weapons:
* Kukri – Both as a weapon and a tool, Jimmy relies on the machete-like Kukri, the blade is 38cm long and 8cm at it’s thickest point. The handle is 5cm and made of a tough, dark wood. The blade is steel and has a forward curve, giving it a fearsome appearance, and the blade is notched at the base of the blade to prevent blood running into the handle. More than just a weapon, it is light, strong and functional enough to be used as a functional cutting tool.
* Slings – Loaded with stones or other small, heavy objects Jimmy’s slings are solid and fairly versatile ranged weapons. They are silent, allowing him to take the enemy by surprise. They also serve as a good distraction and a rather effective weapon in combat. Made of leather, his longer one is 90cm in length and the shorter is about 60cm. He carries with him a pouch to fill with stones and any other suitable projectiles he finds.
* Appliances – working as a cook means that Jimmy is never far from a weapon of some kind. Whether it be cleaver or carving knife, pot or pan. The kitchen is his armory, and he won’t hesitate to use anything around him in a fight. He prefers using an actual weapon but if none are available he’d rather be armed with something than fight barehanded.
the appearance,
»»eyes: Ocean blue
»»markings: Jimmy has a lack of pigmentation above his eyes, making them pale in comparison to the rest of his skin. It’s also present on his knees, so he looks like he’s been Kneeling in paint.
»»height: 5’ 10”
»»weight: 154lbs
»»general appearance:
Standing at a height of 5’ 10” doesn’t make Jimmy Terranova stand out greatly. His build is also average. He maintains some muscle, nothing too much, but enough. He is rather slender, almost deceptively so. He isn’t physically weak as most assume. He has been told he has a swimmers body, which would be useful if he cared at all about swimming. One looking on him would find him reasonably tall and rather thin, though not extreme in either case. His muscles aren’t overly visible, only slightly. His shoulders are broad in relation ho his hips, but are usually slumped, disguising this fact. His collarbone is well defined. His neck is fairly long in appearance, and naturally cranes forward slightly, lowering his stature. When combined with the slumped shoulders he often shows, it makes him appear less threatening and almost unnoticeable. This serves the dual purpose of keeping him off the radar and of making him seem that much more intimidating when he draws himself up and stands straight.
His face is angular, starting from his rather pointed chin, continuing up, his jaw and cheekbones are clearly defined, giving him a strong, almost defiant appearance when he holds his head high. He doesn’t do this too often though, preferring to keep a low profile. His nose is pointed in the same way as the rest of his features and ends in a straight point. He is thankful for this, a hooked nose would look stupid. His ears have an angular curve to them, seeming to come almost to a point near the top. In reality the curve is sharp, making the illusion of a point when viewed head on. His eyes are a wild blue and seem to glimmer with imagination and mischief, if you ever get a good look at them. Jimmy’s hair is blond, and styled using the amazing method of gravity, which involves holding his head back after washing. This is a useful method of avoiding the struggle against his naturally untidy mop, instead making it a style.
His style is simple, functional and lightweight. A plain shirt is the base of this style. It has to be light and relatively plain, something that won’t get in his way, cause or attention or allow someone to identify him. Pants must be fairly loose and non-restricting, and yet again so plain that they won’t make him recognizable, other than that anything goes. He’ll often go for a white-black combination, white shirt and black pants (white pants look awful). are where he allows himself some deviation from blandness. Most colours are fine, so long as they are lightweight and non-restrictive. He always carries a spare pair in another colour, so identification isn’t a problem. He’ll often wear a simple jacket or blazer, nothing too fancy, but it helps to have a couple of extra pockets. He rope necklace on which is attached a simple metal band, he got it from a guy he met once, it has some deeper meaning to it, but Jimmy wears it because it looks pretty cool. Finally he has a simple red headband that he uses to shadow his eyes and conceal the pale skin above his eyes. People say the eyes are the windows to the soul, so he hides his so that people can’t see into him. His eyes are his most distinctive feature, hiding them makes him less noticeable.

*Staying still

*Uncompromising authority
*People taking notice of him
*Wasted opportunities
*Wasted food
*People who can’t take a joke
»»strengths:
*Cooking – It’s an art, not a task. Like an orchestra, everything needs to be present at the right time, in the right volume. Everything has to compliment everything else. Jimmy just understands these things. It may not seem that way when you look at him, but it’s his passion. He can blend flavors like no other he’s met. He learned from his uncle, but developed his own style of working that most people find strange. It’s not about the individual ingredients; it’s about how they come together. Don’t be surprised if he serves up two things you wouldn’t think would go.
*Staying alive = Despite his best efforts, Jimmy always finds himself getting into trouble. And yet, he has never been brought down. He’s gotten into danger with the authorities, with powerful people, with strong individuals. And yet he always makes it out intact. He manages this through a combination of wordplay and agility.
(Wordplay) - He can often talk himself out of a bad situation, no violence, no pointless running. Jimmy’s ability to turn a phrase, combines with his odd speech style, leave less intelligent foes unsure of how to respond, if not completely turned around in their opinions. He grew up playing a game, he would find the biggest bruiser he could, stand next to them, and utter the phrase ‘you stink’, then try and talk his way out of being punched, kicked or whatever this big guy wants to do to him. In all his years of doing this he’s never taken a blow.
(Agility) - But when words fail his best bet is to avoid his antagonist all together. Whether that means outmaneuvering them in a fight or simply turning tail and fleeing, Jimmy maintains the same approach; if they can’t hit you they can’t hurt you. Always moving erratically, it is very hard to pin the young lad down and actually land a blow, avoiding your opponent rather than blocking means your blade is free to find their flesh. When he runs, Jimmy ignores the formal routes of escape. He won’t run down the street, he’ll shift things about to slow you, drop stalls and fling barrels, and try to get to the roofs or over a wall, somewhere unexpected and difficult to follow.
*Staying unnoticed – Yes, he has been discovered more times than he cares to admit, but he has avoided detection a great many more time. Most times it’s due to an urge to play the ‘knight in shining armour’ and save the day. When this urge isn’t present, or when he can ignore it, it’s actually very easy for Jimmy to stay hidden. He stays on the sidelines, in the shadows, listening and watching. Though information gathering isn’t what he wants to do, it’s a skill he possesses.
»»weaknesses:
*Empathy – though he doesn’t always show it, Jimmy values life. He doesn’t kill when he can help it. If they can’t fight, that’s enough. He can’t often resist jumping in to save someone in trouble, even if it puts him in the firing line. He likes people, and tries not to assume the worst of them if he can help it, even of his enemies. He tries not to gain a reputation as someone who cares, but it’s unavoidable that some people come to the caring cook for advice. It gets annoying, but he’s too nice to refuse if he isn’t doing anything.
*Curiosity – Jimmy is naturally curious. He can’t help listening in I he hears something interesting. This means that he gets quite a bit of interesting information; no-one notices the guy preparing the meal while they’re chatting away. Of course the flip side of this is when he is noticed. If people know you know something they don’t leave you alone easily.
*Food – Being a cook means he loves food, can’t get enough of it, it’s a wonder he stays in shape. It also means he doesn’t like missing a meal, hunger gets to him. As does food being wasted. This doesn’t just mean the stuff that gets thrown out. If someone ruins a dish, it’s like an insult. If someone makes him cook something that shouldn’t work, it’s just as bad. And if you insult his cooking he might just forget that he dislikes killing people.
»»secrets: Jimmy’s mother works for the government, practically brainwashed. He’s acting against them solely for her, to show her that they aren’t what she believes, to free her.
»»general personality:
Jimmy Terranova is not so much complicated as he is chaotic. He is a man of simple pleasures. He likes good food, good company and good humor. He dislikes attention being drawn to him and being restricted in what he can do. First and foremost he is a cook. He spent a lot of time with his uncle growing up, hanging around in his restaurant. He learned how to cook and it became a passion. He won’t tolerate a bad meal, perfection can be achieved with anything, even the terrible ingredients he’s had to use in the past. He’s a great improviser when it comes to food, and bits of almost anything can come together to make something unique. The kitchen is his domain and he won’t be ruled by anyone once he’s there. People are another interest of his. Everyone is unique, and finding out about them is a better use of your time than most other things. Getting to know people comes with the added benefit of giving you information you can use if you ever need it. It could be to help or hurt them, Getting to know someone doesn’t automatically mean they’re a friend. Jimmy knows that universal co-operation is almost impossible, there will always be someone in the world who wants someone else dead, but he does like as much peace as is possible. Violence without reason shouldn’t exist. He is fighting for freedom, something worth fighting for.
Jimmy is a very active person, he moves in everything he does. Even if he’s just sat having a conversation his body talks as much as his mouth does. He gestures with his arms, moves to emphasize what he’s saying. When he cooks he’s constantly in motion, doing ten things at once. The only time he’s ever still is when he sleeps. All that activity means he sleeps like a log. As much as Jimmy loves moving, he also loves conversation, and debate. He’ll still be moving, but he’s actually capable of quite sophisticated talk, despite his casual appearance. People don’t expect that guy who makes food to be able to match them in an intellectual battle, let alone beat them. Jimmy has a very strong moral code he keeps to. Violence without reason should be avoided, killing avoided at all if possible. Rules are fine, in fact they are necessary for society to function. But realism and necessity is more important. Those who make the rules should not be above them, nor should they operate without knowing how the rules will affect people. Fairness is essential, treat others how you want to be treated. In his ideal world an elected democracy would rule, free will would be abundant, and he could settle into a routine, own his own restaurant and not have to hide.

»»background:
This world was all he knew. He was born here, he will almost certainly die here. He wasn’t an innocent farm-boy, but he wasn’t far off. He isn’t special, his parents weren’t rich or famous, they didn’t do anything important. His mother was a secretary and his father a builder. Jimmy Terranova was born, and spent most of his younger life, in a small, simple neighborhood. He had friends as he grew up, and they played. He didn’t know what was going on. He was told that this world was new, and was theirs to build. But he knew nothing of the governing body’s deeds, how things changed, how they ascended to near godhood. All he knew was his father didn’t like the government. He would talk about them over dinner, saying things Jimmy didn’t understand. He remembers that it worried his mother. She told him not to make waves, whatever that meant. His father didn’t listen anyway. It strained his parent’s relationship. Jimmy didn’t like it, so he took to staying with his uncle when he could. He didn’t live far away, in a room above his restaurant. It wasn’t too busy, so it was a perfect place for him to hang around with his friends. His uncle would let him help in the kitchen, stirring or adding ingredients. His fondest memory of his family was when he was six years old. His parents and his uncle had taken him on a picnic. They were on a beautiful field. They all played games and ate the lunch they had packed. His father and him played soccer against his uncle. His father had been so happy. He would be dead in less than two years. But for now he was happy.
Jimmy didn’t take any notice of what was going on in the world, other than his parents disagreed on it. That all changed when his father and some of his workmates spoke out against the government. They left to protest outside a government building. They never came back. Jimmy heard something about it, despite his uncle and mother trying to keep it from him. He was already a good listener. He heard that his father and the others were ‘activists’ and that they were a ‘threat to order’ and that they had been ‘dealt with’. It took hi years to fully understand what that meant. They refused to follow like sheep, so they had been killed. After his father died, Jimmy changed. It wasn’t very noticeable really, but for a while he became slow and depressed. That changed though. His mother thought he had ‘come to terms’ with it. He hadn’t. He merely developed purpose. He knew something would have to be changed. He didn’t know what yet, but that brought him back to his old self, almost.
Since his father was gone he spent a lot more time at his uncle’s. He became as much of a father as he could, though he wasn’t a family man. He gave Jimmy a job and trained him in his art. While this was happening, Jimmy’s relationship with his mother grew more distant. Jimmy wasn’t a fan of the government. The reasons for this were obvious. He knew he couldn’t do anything, but he didn’t have to like them. His mother on the other hand, fell into their trap. It didn’t help that she got a job working for them. Advancing to an administrative position of moderate importance because of her sheep-like dedication to them. Jimmy couldn’t understand why she would do such a thing, after what happened to his father, her husband. She always gave him the same scripted responses. She was practically brainwashed.
By the age of sixteen he’d had enough. Living with his mother was just too much for him now. She wasn’t herself anymore, she was a drone, mindlessly following the ‘higher power’ who were people just like her. So he left. He wandered around, blagging his way around. Living each day individually, working as a cook for a few weeks in a place, then moving on. He tried to keep attention off him, he wanted nothing to do with the authorities. And yet he heard things, he saw injustice. And he acted, despite himself. And he would have to fight, or run. He always got away though. His gift for listening got him his biggest opportunity, though. He heard about the pirates, what they were doing, and, on one fateful occasion, how he could get involved. He was working at a café open to the street, and overheard two guys. They were being quiet about it, but he worked out that they were pirates. He listened in quietly for a while, and when they left he followed. They took to the backstreets, where it was harder for him to remain unnoticed. He knew he would have to speak up at some point. It was clear what he had to do now. He would help these freedom fighters any way he could. And, as luck would have it, these two needed him. They were in a little trouble with some guys who must be military. They were in uniform, and armed. Outnumbered, the pirates wouldn’t stand a chance in fairness. Hell, even out of fairness the odds weren’t good. So, he intervened. The military were taken by surprise, which was to be expected when someone jumps out from cover behind you with a large knife. He didn’t kill any of them, but made a few quick cuts the create an opening the others could run though, then they fled. It was a wild chase, but they got away. Taking refuge in his uncle’s restaurant, Jimmy explained his situation, and they took him with them, explained how things worked. He had heard of the pirate deities but only the odd story, it would take some getting used to, but he was nothing if not adaptable.

Friday. Freedom! Mitchell had almost shouted that Braveheart style as he’d left his final class. He didn’t but it was a close run thing. Though he liked the school in general he had to admit he liked the weekends just as much, if not more. Education was only fun if it was in reasonable doses. There had been a bunch of studies about effective learning time that had all yielded different results. The general consensus was that somewhere around one hour was good for learning and between ten and thirty minutes for revision. Even with several breaks, five days a week was coming close to pushing it. Still, the weekends made it all worthwhile. Sleeping in was brilliant, lazing around after waking up was also brilliant. Monday mornings… not so much. But there was a whole weekend to go before he had to worry about that. He was wearing his usual combo of shirt, jeans and converse, today in different shades of blue. Boring? Maybe, but did it really matter that much for a day in classes? He had forgone the hat too, that was mainly a weekend thing.
The teen made his way to the library, hoping to maybe find something to read. He had his own little collection of books he was working his way through, but he occasionally liked to mix things up with a book from the library. He had just finished one of his own and he wanted them to last him the full year. He had absolutely no idea what he was looking for, his plan was to just randomly browse the shelves and see if something useful caught his attention. Not the best strategy but he always had his own books to fall back on if he didn’t find anything. He wasn’t really very hopeful about finding something, but he might as well have a look.
Wandering down the rows of shelves, Mitchell found he wasn’t really paying attention to the books. His mind kept wandering for some reason. His mind was getting away from him, going off onto random subjects. He just had too much stuff in his head. He felt more like writing, or talking to someone, or something to engage his mind. Luckily a possible distraction just about fell into his lap. Actually, it was nearly the other way around. As he turned into the next row the Stoat shifter almost tripped over someone sat there reading. Noticing just in time, Mitchell gave a little half hop to avoid landing right on top of the person, and in doing so almost collided with the next bookshelf. As he fell he managed to pretty accurately convey his emotions. ”Bloody hell!” Though it sounded closer to a single random sound than an actual phrase. Looking down, he noticed his creative writing teacher. Why was she sat on the library floor reading? Surely a seat would be a better idea? He looked down, visible confused, not quite sure what to say. If it were another student he would probably have made some comment on how a chair would be more appropriate, but he keeping in mind this was a member of staff he was talking to he decided against that option. He would just see what her reaction was.
