The young woman bent down and picked up a book lying on the ground. The school had ended for the weekend and the students had escaped the schools lonely rooms and the dusty corridors, running home in the sunshine, planning visits with friends. A big woman in a fancy dress that did not fit her body walked past with a child in her hand. The young woman’s eyes scanned the mother and her child while her brain remembered their names and many more things about the family. The woman with the child saw her and sent the other woman a hard look. The woman with the book smiled and said: “Good afternoon Mrs Flicker, what a lonely dress you are wearing today!”
Mrs Flicker who was a very self centered woman melted like an ice cube to the flatter, she stopped and turned to show all the splendor her new dress had to offer but only managed to show how much the dress did not fit her, since the bug lady had not realized that the zipper on the back was broken. The young woman smiled and lied: “It looks indeed very good on you.”
The boy to the mother waved and said: “Have a nice weekend, teacher!”
His teacher smiled and waved her hand which did not hold the book. “You too young Mr. Flicker.”
As the family walked down the street from the school the assistant teacher walked into the school and shut the door behind her. The woman was known in the village as Miss Yan but her own name was something completely different. The woman was not who she said to be and now when she was alone she let the mask of gentleness drop like a stone falls to earth after being thrown into the air. The fake teacher turned away from the door and threw the book away as hard as she could, it landed in the corridor and the pages flew around in the corridor like flies awoken by a sudden movement. The woman walked up to the broken book and stomped down hard on the hardback cover, her breath fast and furious as she clenched her hand into fist. She hated that woman which she had to bow and smile to, the false lady with her greedy and rich aura, pretending like she was the most beautiful on Sterhera, ha! The young woman breathed deep and stood up a little straighter, the pages from the demolished book lying around her like fallen soldiers. She sighted and bent down to pick up all the trash and as she was about to walk and throw everything in the trash can she heard a knock on the door and frowned slightly, who would call her at this time when school was over? With her arms full of paper she walked over to the door and opened it,
“Yes?”
